Heatwave Alert: Western Rajasthan Braces for Sweltering Conditions.

Western Rajasthan is currently under the grip of a severe heatwave, as announced by the Meteorological Centre. This alert extends to certain regions until May 20th. In particular, parts of western Rajasthan are under an orange alert, indicating the severity of the heatwave, while areas in the east are under a yellow alert.

The heatwave is accompanied by loo, characterised by strong, gusty, hot, dry winds prevalent during the day. Radhe Shyam Sharma, the Director of the Regional Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Jaipur, has highlighted the gravity of the situation.

He stated that the western part of the state is bracing for a new spell of heatwaves, expected to last for at least a week. Sharma expressed concern over the rapid rise in temperatures, emphasising that in the coming days, temperatures are likely to surpass the 46-47 degree Celsius mark, particularly in regions like Shekhawati and northwest Rajasthan.

The temperature is expected to escalate by 2-3 degrees Celsius. Moreover, the IMD official warned that the heatwave would gradually advance towards eastern Rajasthan by May 17th.

This alarming situation is exemplified by recent temperature records, with Sri Ganganagar in Western Rajasthan recording the highest temperature of 44.4 degrees Celsius. Maximum temperatures ranging between 42-44 degrees Celsius have been observed in isolated pockets across Rajasthan.

In light of these extreme conditions, healthcare professionals have issued advisories to the public. They recommend wearing full-sleeved shirts when venturing outdoors and minimising exposure to the scorching sun.

Staying hydrated is crucial, with suggestions to consume water, fruit juices, electrolytes, or ORS regularly. Failure to maintain adequate fluid intake can lead to severe health complications.

The IMD's predictions for the month of May indicate above-normal maximum temperatures in most parts of the country. Additionally, an increase in the number of heatwave days is anticipated, particularly in regions like south Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Gujarat.

This forecast underscores the importance of taking precautionary measures to mitigate the adverse effects of the impending heatwave. The severe heatwave alert issued for Western Rajasthan demands immediate attention and proactive measures from both authorities and citizens alike.

Cooperation and preparedness are essential to mitigate the impact of extreme weather conditions and ensure public safety and well-being.
