Incessant rain over the past three days has led to water leakage in the main dome of the Taj Mahal, and submerged one of its gardens, drawing the attention of tourists.

A 20-second video showing the rainwater-submerged garden went viral on Thursday, raising concerns about the condition of the iconic monument.

Rajkumar Patel, Superintending Chief of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Agra circle, confirmed the leakage but assured that no structural damage had occurred.

"Yes, we have witnessed the leakage in the main dome of the Taj Mahal. After that, when we checked, it was due to seepage, and there was no damage to the main dome. We have checked the main dome through a drone camera," Patel said.

The viral video quickly spread across social media, with tourists at the site capturing their own footage of the waterlogged garden. However, ASI officials have maintained that the seepage is being monitored and there is no lasting harm to the structure.

Monika Sharma, a government-approved tour guide, highlighted the importance of the Taj Mahal not only as a symbol of pride for Agra but as a critical source of employment for local residents.

"Proper care should be taken of the monument because for the tourism industry people it is the only hope," she said.

Meanwhile, the city of Agra has been reeling under heavy rainfall, causing widespread waterlogging. Crops have been submerged, roads inundated, and even the National Highway has been affected.

In response, the Agra administration has ordered the closure of all schools until the rain subsides.

Despite the concerns raised by the viral video, officials continue to reassure the public that the integrity of the Taj Mahal remains intact.
