The Tamil Nadu Police has officially cleared the Isha Foundation in Coimbatore regarding a case involving six of its volunteers who were reported missing.
This decision comes after thorough investigation, with the police confirming that five of the volunteers, who had left the center for personal reasons, have since returned.
The update was presented before a division bench of Justices M.S. Ramesh and Sunder Mohan of the Madras High Court during a hearing on a habeas corpus petition filed by C. Thirumalai from Kulasekarapatti in Tirunelveli district.
Thirumalai's petition concerned his brother, C. Ganesan, who had been missing since March this year and was a volunteer at the yoga center.
According to the petitioner, he received a call from the center on March 2 inquiring about his brother's whereabouts, prompting concerns. Following this, the center's administrator, Dinesh, lodged a complaint with the Alandurai police on March 5, leading to the registration of a missing person case.
Despite efforts, Ganesan could not be located even after the FIR was filed, prompting Thirumalai to file the writ of habeas corpus.
During the court proceedings, Additional Public Prosecutor E. Raj Thilak informed the court that 36 individuals, including employees and volunteers at the Isha Yoga Center, had been questioned thus far. However, he requested additional time to submit a comprehensive status report on the case.
Thilak also revealed that while five more volunteers were initially reported missing, most of them had returned to the center, revealing that they had left for personal reasons.
Acknowledging the prosecutor's statements, the court directed the High Court registry to categorize the case under 'For Dismissal' and set a date for June 7. The court also noted the absence of the petitioner's counsel during the hearing.
