The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has detained four individuals, including three women suspected to be of Rohingya origin, over allegations of illegal entry into India via the India-Bangladesh border using false identities, a senior police official said Tuesday.
The suspects impersonated themselves as Indian citizens using forged documents, ATS claimed.
Identified as Aamir Hamza, 21, Meena Jahan, 19, Sukura Begum, 22, and Onatra Begum, 19, the detainees hail from Myanmar.
Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar stated that the Uttar Pradesh ATS had been monitoring intelligence related to the illicit entry of Rohingya individuals into India via the porous border with Bangladesh.
“These individuals were suspected of using forged documents to establish themselves as Indian nationals and engaging in anti-national activities across various states in India. Upon receiving credible information, the Uttar Pradesh ATS team intercepted a group of Rohingya citizens, including women, travelling from Silchar, Assam, to New Delhi via train on March 27,” Kumar added.
Sources within the ATS revealed that the women were allegedly being trafficked to Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior police officials disclosed that Aamir Hamza allegedly enticed girls from Myanmar with promises of lucrative job opportunities and salaries.
Subsequently, he allegedly provided them with falsified Indian identities and dispatched them to states such as Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana, and Karnataka.
Sources further indicated that Aamir Hamza will undergo further interrogation. Authorities aim to inquire about his accomplices in Bangladesh and India, as well as the extent of his involvement in trafficking young girls from Myanmar to India.
