In a move aimed at maintaining communal harmony, the Uttar Pradesh administration has decided to cover ten mosques in Sambhal with tarpaulin during Holi celebrations.
This measure comes as Holi coincides with Ramazan ‘Jumma’ on March 14, a rare occurrence in sixty years.
Officials have stated that this step has been taken to ensure peaceful celebrations of both festivals.
According to Sambhal Superintendent of Police Shrish Chandra, the decision was made to prevent any disturbance or tension between the communities while allowing them to observe their respective traditions without conflict.
The mosques identified for this precautionary measure fall along the route of the ‘Chaupai’ procession, a traditional practice during Holi. Covering these mosques has been a long-standing practice to avoid any potential issues.
Authorities have also adjusted the timings of Friday prayers and Holi processions to prevent overlap and reduce the possibility of disputes.
Local officials have ensured that the Friday ‘namaaz’ will either take place before or after the Holi procession. Additionally, restrictions have been placed on outsiders entering mosque premises on the day of the festival.
Security measures have been intensified, with police instructed to maintain strict vigilance to prevent any untoward incidents.
Among the ten mosques set to be covered are the Shahi Jama Masjid, Ladania Wali Masjid, Thaane Wali Masjid, Ek Raat Masjid, Gurdwara Road Masjid, Gol Masjid, Khajoor Wali Masjid, Anaar Wali Masjid, and Gol Dukaan Wali Masjid.
These places of worship lie along the route of the Holi procession and have been included in the precautionary measure.
To further ensure peace, a meeting was organised at the Sambhal police station, where religious leaders from both communities discussed measures to prevent communal tensions.
The initiative has been taken with the consensus of local stakeholders to facilitate a smooth and joyous celebration for all.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to upholding law and order while respecting religious sentiments.
The measures taken reflect the administration’s efforts to balance tradition with security, allowing both communities to observe their festivals without disruptions.
