The stage is set for the 2025 Maha Kumbh, with preparations well under way for the grand festival, which will begin on January 13 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
One of the most significant aspects of this year’s Kumbh is the entry of three prominent 'akharas' from the Vaishnav sect—Digambar, Nirvani, and Nirmohi.
These Akharas, each holding historical significance, were formed after the Mughal period and will play a crucial role in the spiritual and cultural proceedings of the event. Along with the Vaishnav Akharas, a large number of Khalsa devotees will join the grand celebrations, making the event even more vibrant.
The arrival of these Akharas will be marked by a grand procession, led by Jagadguru Rambhadracharya, which will be accompanied by elephants, horses, and camels, all carrying sacred instruments and flags in hues of white and yellow.
The procession will enter under heavy security measures, set up by both the local and state authorities, ensuring the safety of the participants and visitors alike.
Rambhadracharya, a prominent seer, expressed his intent to use the Maha Kumbh as a platform to awaken the consciousness of Hindus.
In an interview, he shared his vision, saying that once Hindus are united in purpose, any opposition will be overpowered. Rambhadracharya also responded to claims about the Maha Kumbh being held on Waqf land, asserting that Prayagraj belongs to the Hindus and that such claims were based on misinformation.
He further commented on the Sanatan board proposal, stressing that there should be no political interference in the religious event, as he remains one of the top seers at the Kumbh.
The Uttar Pradesh government has also ensured that everything is in place for the smooth functioning of the event. Minister Nand Gopal Gupta, in his statements, reassured the public that all preparations have been completed, and around 40 to 45 crore devotees are expected to visit Prayagraj for the event.
Gupta mentioned that the success of the 2019 Kumbh, held under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, would serve as a blueprint for the successful conduct of the 2025 Mahakumbh.
Abhilasha Gupta, the former Mayor of Prayagraj, spoke about the significance of the event, emphasising that the Mahakumbh will spread the message of unity across India.
She highlighted Prayagraj as a city of Sanatan Dharma and described the Maha Kumbh celebrations as an opportunity to unite people and spread the message of Lord Ram, which she said was essential for national harmony.
In preparation for the large gathering, Uttar Pradesh Police have launched an intensive checking campaign to ensure security and safety for the attendees.
Led by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Vaibhav Krishna, the campaign focuses on the surveillance of suspicious activities and individuals at key locations such as the Sangam Ghat, pontoon bridges, and major intersections.
The authorities have left no stone unturned to ensure that the event proceeds without any major hindrances.
Religious rituals have already started, with Mahamandaleshwar Kaushalya Nand Giri of Kinnar Akhara performing a special fire ritual (Havan) to ensure the safety and grandeur of the Maha Kumbh.
The ritual, performed with mustard seeds and dedicated to Maa Baglamukhi, one of the 10 Mahavidyas, was intended to bless the Kumbh celebrations and ensure the safe journey of the millions who will be part of this spiritual event.
The Mahakumbh, which takes place once every 12 years, is expected to attract over 45 crore devotees from across the country and abroad. During this period, people gather at the Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers, to take part in the holy dip, known as Shahi Snan.
This ritual is believed to cleanse one of their sins and grant moksha or liberation. The main bathing rituals are scheduled for January 14, January 29, and February 3, coinciding with Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya, and Basant Panchami, respectively.
