Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar recently expressed his deep concern regarding the growing issue of demographic disorder in India, comparing its consequences to those of a nuclear bomb.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the International Conference for Chartered Accountants at Birla Auditorium in Jaipur, Dhankhar highlighted the alarming trend of demographic changes that are transforming certain regions into political strongholds, effectively undermining the essence of democracy.

The Vice-President noted that these areas, influenced by demographic dislocation, are becoming impenetrable fortresses where elections lose their meaning. This, he argued, poses a serious threat to the nation's democratic framework.

He emphasised the importance of India remaining a stabilising global force, underscoring the need for the country to lead with a vision that contributes to peace and harmony worldwide. However, he warned that ignoring the dangers of demographic upheaval would be detrimental to the nation.

Dhankhar made it clear that organic and natural demographic changes are not a cause for alarm. However, he pointed out that strategic demographic changes intended to achieve specific goals can be concerning.

He observed that an analysis of demographic shifts over the past few decades reveals a troubling pattern that challenges the country’s values, civilizational ethos, and democratic principles.

He warned that if these challenges are not systematically addressed, they could escalate into existential threats for the nation, similar to those faced by other countries that have lost their identities due to demographic disorder.

In his address, Dhankhar underscored the significance of preserving the inclusivity that defines India. He stressed that the majority should embody tolerance and create a nurturing ecosystem, contrasting this with other forms of majority that are aggressive and ruthless, undermining the values of others.

He urged the audience to move beyond narrow divisions and adopt a nationalistic perspective that embraces the country’s diversity. A true citizen of India, he stated, should celebrate the nation's glorious past, regardless of their faith, as it constitutes the shared cultural heritage of the country.

The Vice-President highlighted the forces threatening India’s unity, mentioning attempts to portray the country’s shared cultural heritage as a weakness. He called for a robust ideological counter-attack against those who wish to sow discord. Dhankhar referred to these elements as “champions of anarchy,” who, driven by self-interest, are willing to sacrifice national unity for petty political gains.

He criticised politicians who prioritise personal gain over national interest, urging a neutralisation of such divisive tactics to reshape the country's social landscape.

As he discussed India’s rapid growth and development, Dhankhar emphasised the need for social unity. He pointed out that while the nation’s economic rise is impressive, it remains fragile if divisiveness prevails or if nationalism wanes. He cautioned against anti-national forces, both within and outside the country, that could disrupt social harmony.

Dhankhar expressed his concern about some individuals’ disregard for the rule of law, stating that there was a time when certain people believed they were above the law due to their privileged status.

He remarked on the change in perception, where even those in responsible positions disregard legal obligations. This disregard, he said, is part of a larger, sinister design by forces opposed to India’s progress.
