CM Yogi's Green UP Initiative: Planting 35 Crore Saplings

The Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's leadership, has embarked on an ambitious mission to enhance the state's green cover. This year, the government aims to plant a staggering 350 million saplings, with the collective support of its citizens. The ultimate goal is to expand Uttar Pradesh's green areas from the current 9% to 15% by the year 2026-27.

The initiative involves comprehensive planning across various departments and divisions statewide. Each department has been assigned specific targets to ensure the success of this expansive plantation campaign. Key departments involved include Forest, Environment, and Climate Change; Rural Development; Agriculture; Horticulture; Panchayati Raj; Revenue; Urban Development; Higher Education; Silk; Public Works; Railways; Water Power; Basic Education; Health; Industry; Industrial Development; Secondary Education; Home-Animal Husbandry; Energy; Cooperation; Housing Development; Defence; Technical Education; Labour; and Transport.

In all 18 divisions of the state, meticulous preparations are underway to facilitate the safe and successful planting of saplings. Lucknow division, leading the charge, has been tasked with planting four crore saplings, followed by significant targets set for Kanpur, Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Mirzapur, Ayodhya, Devipatan, Prayagraj, Bareilly, Varanasi, Moradabad, Agra, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Aligarh, Meerut, Basti, and Saharanpur divisions. Each division's targets have been carefully calculated to maximise green coverage across Uttar Pradesh.

To ensure accountability and transparency, all plantation sites will be geo-tagged. The Forest Department alone plans to plant 12.60 crore saplings across the divisions, while other departments collectively aim to plant approximately 22.40 crore saplings.

The campaign encompasses diverse locations, including forest lands, village panchayats, community spaces, along expressways and canals, on development authority and industrial complex lands, defence and railway properties, medical and educational institutions, other government properties, private farmlands with farmer collaboration, and private premises owned by citizens.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to mobilise resources and efforts across the state to realise this ambitious vision of a greener Uttar Pradesh.

This comprehensive effort not only aims to enhance environmental sustainability but also to foster community participation and responsibility towards conserving nature.
