Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep emotion over the 'churma' prepared by Neeraj Chopra's mother, Saroj Devi, during a banquet held in honour of visiting Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Tuesday.
In a heartfelt letter addressed to Saroj Devi, PM Modi recounted how the "delicious" churma reminded him of his own mother.
He revealed that the two-time Olympic gold medallist often spoke of his mother’s culinary skills.
"I could not stop myself from writing the letter to you after eating this. Brother Neeraj often spoke about this churma, and I turned emotional after eating it," he wrote, emphasising the affection imbued in the dish.
Notably, PM Modi received this "mother's offering" just before Navratri, making it even more significant.
He shared that the churma served as his main meal before his fast, stating, "As the food prepared by you gives brother Neeraj the energy to win medals for the country, this churma will give me the strength to serve the country for the next nine days."
The Prime Minister reassured Saroj Devi and all women that he remains committed to realising the goal of 'Viksit Bharat' with even greater dedication.
