In response to the circulation of a manipulated video purportedly showcasing Union Home Minister Amit Shah making controversial remarks, the Delhi Police has taken swift action, filing an FIR on Sunday.

 

The initiative follows a complaint filed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) concerning the dissemination of the video on social media platforms.

 

The FIR, lodged by the Special Cell, encompasses various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) alongside pertinent provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Act.

 

The video in question allegedly portrays Shah advocating for the elimination of reservation quotas for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes.

According to the complaint submitted by Sinku Sharan Singh, DC of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), the circulated videos aim to sow discord among communities, potentially jeopardizing public tranquility and order.

 

The MHA reiterated the fraudulent nature of the video, emphasizing its potential to engender disharmony and disrupt public peace.

 

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has vehemently refuted the video's authenticity, labeling it as a distortion of Shah's original statements made during an election rally.

 

Amit Malviya, spokesperson for the BJP, rebuffed the video's credibility, asserting that it was tampered with to misrepresent Shah's stance on reservation quotas, particularly for Muslims in Telangana. Malviya accused the Congress party of orchestrating the dissemination of the manipulated video, cautioning against the potential for widespread violence.

 

In response to the complaint filed by the MHA, the FIR emphasized the urgent need to address the dissemination of misleading information that could incite communal tensions.

 

The ministry has also appended details of the links and social media handles involved in circulating the fabricated video.
