J&K Assembly polls: PM Modi, Shah to lead multiple rallies

Each of PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah's rallies are strategically designed to cover two to three adjoining Assembly constituencies.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has initiated its election campaign in Jammu and Kashmir by setting up 44 election offices across Jammu Province on Monday.

Among the offices one is dedicated to the Kashmir Displaced Persons (KPs). These offices were inaugurated virtually by J&K BJP President Ravinder Raina.

In a significant strategic move, the BJP also plans to hold nine major election rallies in the Union Territory.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to lead five rallies, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah will spearhead four.

According to party sources, each rally is strategically designed to cover two to three adjoining Assembly constituencies.

The plan for these rallies has been finalised, and a request for approval will soon be sent to the BJP high command.

This expansion comes ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, with the BJP also planning to open election offices in the Kashmir region after August 15.

This move follows a statement by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, who recently confirmed that a state-level review for holding the Assembly elections has been completed.

A final decision on the election schedule will be made after evaluating security and force requirements.

According to sources, the notification for the election schedule is expected in the coming weeks.

Some officials suggest that the Election Commission may announce the schedule after the conclusion of the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.

This will be the first assembly election for Jammu and Kashmir since 2014, marking its inaugural election as a Union Territory.
