Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader H D Kumaraswamy is expected to be sworn in as a minister in the Union Cabinet on Sunday evening, according to party sources.

While the specific portfolio for Kumaraswamy has not yet been confirmed, the JD(S), which secured two seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections, has shown interest in the Agriculture Ministry, sources revealed.

"Kumaraswamy has received an invitation for the swearing-in ceremony. He will join Prime Minister Narendra Modi's new Council of Ministers," a party source said.

Celebrations are being prepared at the residence of JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda at 5 Safdarjung Lane in New Delhi to mark the occasion.

This evening, Modi will be sworn in for a record-tying third consecutive term as Prime Minister.

The inclusion of Kumaraswamy in the Union Cabinet is viewed as a strategic move by the BJP to strengthen its presence in the southern states, particularly in Karnataka, where the JD(S) has significant influence, especially in the Vokkaliga community-dominated areas.
