Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami says special assembly has been called to hold discussions regarding UCC.

The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday said a special assembly has been called to hold discussions regarding the draft of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). During a press conference at Uttarakhand Sadan, CM Dhami stated that this special assembly session for the same will commence on Monday.

"The committee submitted about a 749-page report along with a draft UCC in four volumes today. It will be tabled in the state assembly on February 6 for discussion," he told the reporters.

This draft was submitted to the chief minister by a committee led by Justice (retired) Ranjana Prakash Desai - the Chairperson of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Committee, along with other members. The handover took place during a program at Mukhya Sevak Sadan on February 2. In response, the state government is set to advance the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code by introducing a Bill during the Assembly Session scheduled for February 5.

The state's law department and parliamentary affairs department will also go through the committee's report and the draft UCC, the chief minister added. After discussions on the draft UCC, a bill will be brought for its implementation in the state.

"We had promised to bring the UCC after the state elections. We are going to fulfill it," CM then said, adding, "We have done this getting inspiration from our top leadership (of the BJP)," he added.

"Definitely this is happening for the good," CM Dhami said and hoped that other states would follow suit.
