In a positive development for Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and other members of the Indian cricket team, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly allowed players to be accompanied by their families during the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai.
This change comes as a significant relief after the BCCI previously issued a 10-point directive that restricted family members’ presence during overseas tours, particularly after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
However, while the BCCI has relaxed its earlier stance, there is a condition. According to a report in Dainik Jagran, players will only be allowed to have their wives and family members join them for one match during the tournament.
Players are required to discuss the matter among themselves and submit a request to the BCCI, which will then make necessary arrangements.
Previously, the BCCI allowed families only during extended tours lasting over 45 days, with a two-week window for family stays. For shorter events like the Champions Trophy, family accompaniment was not initially permitted.
This new rule, however, allows players to bring their families for one match, though it’s still unclear which game the players will choose.
The BCCI stated that its new policy for family presence aims to "ensure professional standards and operational efficiency" during tours.

The policy, as outlined in a PTI statement, also included a warning for non-compliance, stressing that any exceptions or deviations must be pre-approved by both the Chairman of the Selection Committee and the Head Coach. Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action.
The BCCI’s regulations also made it clear that players may face sanctions for failing to adhere to these policies, which could include penalties such as deductions from match fees or even exclusion from participation in BCCI-organized tournaments like the Indian Premier League.
India’s opening match in the Champions Trophy against Bangladesh is scheduled for February 20, followed by games against Pakistan on February 23 and New Zealand on March 2.
