The US Embassy and Consulates in India are set to introduce Gamechangers Ultimate Frisbee, a sports initiative designed to promote gender equality and leadership development through the mixed-gender sport of ultimate frisbee.
This year-long program will train 100 female coaches from urban and rural communities across these regions. It will commence in Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, and Chennai from August 19 to 24 and continue in Mumbai from August 26 to 31.
The program aims to enhance the presence of women in leadership positions by empowering young women with crucial leadership skills.
The initiative will begin with coach development workshops and gender-inclusive coaching sessions held at educational institutions and sports complexes.
After these in-person camps, the coaches will receive ongoing support through virtual leadership training sessions throughout the year.
This combination of in-person and virtual training will enable the coaches to lead ultimate frisbee sessions in their communities. Promoting inclusion through this mixed-gender sport will foster leadership and enhance confidence among girls.
The program aims to increase the number of participating coaches serving in leadership roles by 40 per cent and encourage 30 per cent of program alumni to actively contribute to gender equality initiatives. The initiative also includes male-allyship workshops, which will promote supportive environments for gender equality in sports and help foster a culture of inclusion on and off the court.
