Under the Free Bicycle Supply Scheme, the two-wheelers are provided to eligible students for study facility on first admission in class 6 and 9, the official said.

The Madhya Pradesh government will provide free bicycles to nearly 4.5 lakh students from government schools this year under its Free Bicycle Supply Scheme, an official announced on Monday.

The state's school education department has issued instructions to district education officers to facilitate the scheme's implementation.

The initiative offers bicycles to eligible students upon their first admission to classes 6 and 9, aiming to ease access to education. Last year, approximately 4.07 lakh students benefited from the scheme.

The scheme will also support girl students residing in hostels located two kilometres or more from their government schools, ensuring they can commute easily, the official added.

The department has emphasised the need for strict attention to the quality of bicycles purchased under the programme to ensure their durability and effectiveness for the students.
