In preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on June 21 for International Yoga Day and the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra, the Centre has mobilised over 500 companies (approximately 50,000 personnel) of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to be deployed in Kashmir.

 

 The Prime Minister is set to perform yoga near Dal Lake in Srinagar during his visit.

 

According to sources, during a high-level meeting of Home Ministry officials on Thursday night, shortly after the PM reviewed security in the UT, it was decided that CAPFs would be deployed along the route to be taken by the PM and on the challenging Amarnath Yatra route.

 

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a review meeting on the security situation in J&K. He will hold another meeting on June 16 with J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and officials from the Army, MHA, and UT.

 

Modi’s visit comes just days after the Reasi terror attack, where terrorists targeted a bus carrying pilgrims, resulting in the deaths of nine people.

 

Following recent terror attacks in Kathua, Doda, and Reasi, all within the Jammu division, it has been decided to take action against sympathisers of terrorists and extremists under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

 

The meeting focused primarily on strengthening security around strategic installations in Jammu and Kashmir in light of recent terror attacks, Modi’s upcoming visit, and the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra.

 

The Home Ministry’s meeting followed Modi's security review on Thursday, where he stressed the importance of deploying India’s full range of counter-terror capabilities.

 

 During the meeting, the PM directed officials to utilise all “available resources and strategies” to combat terrorism effectively.

 

He was briefed on the ongoing counterterrorism efforts in the region, including the strategies and operations being implemented to tackle terrorist activities and ensure the region's safety.
