Days after recovery of tractor-trailer parts allegedly stolen from the Shambhu farmers’ protest site, AAP leader Pankaj Kumar Pappu has been booked for the theft.
The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) held a protest outside Pappu’s house, accusing him of stealing tyres and hooks of two tractor-trailers that went missing from the Shambhu site in March. The case has put Pappu’s wife Sujata Chawla, who is the Nabha Municipal Council chief, in trouble with 17 out of 23 councillors submitting a no-confidence motion against her.
On a statement by farmer leader and BKU Ekta Azad chief Jaswinder Singh Longowal, a case has been registered against Pappu at the Nabha police station on charges of theft of tractor-trailers, receiving stolen goods, destruction of evidence and criminal conspiracy.
The issue of theft of tractor trailers and the state government’s failure to trace the stolen vehicles had been strongly condemned at a joint meeting of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha at Kisan Bhawan in Chandigarh.
Guramneet Singh Mangat of the KMM, who is spearheading a campaign to trace missing tractor-trailers after the eviction of farmers from the Shambhu and Khanauri borders, had said that over 22 trolleys had gone missing from the protest site.
