A day after one of the most senior leaders of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha switched sides to the BJP, another senior leader and a five-time MLA, Lobin Hembrom today joined the saffron fold in Ranchi.
State BJP president and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi, Chief Minister of Assam Government and co-in-charge of Jharkhand Assembly Elections Himanta Bishwa Sarma, and Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri gave him membership of the party.
Former Chief Minister Champai Soren, former Chief Minister Madhu Koda, and JMM chief Shibu Soren’s daughter-in-law Sita Soren were also present on the occasion.
After joining the BJP Lobin said that he worked to decorate the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha from the beginning and supported the party with honesty and loyalty.
“Shibu Soren taught us politics by holding our finger. He asked us to protest where it was wrong. But the Hemant Soren-led government is defying his principles. Guruji used to say that stay away from alcohol and Hemant Soren's government brought a model of Chhattisgarh and traded the liquor,” he said.
Lobin said that the present government is encouraging infiltration. Bangladeshi infiltrators are accumulating on tribal land. If the tribals protest, they beat them up. However, the government does not take any cognizance.
“Today Bangladeshi boys are marrying tribal girls and grabbing land. This is a big conspiracy. If this situation prevails, then there is definitely a collapse of the tribal system. That is why we thought that now Jharkhand is not going to survive in JMM’s regime and decided to join BJP,” he said.
Hembrom, who was a five-time MLA from the Borio constituency, was recently disqualified from the membership of the House after he contested the Lok Sabha elections as an independent defying the party’s whip.
After Sita Soren and Champai Soren, Lobin Hembrom is one of the biggest Santhal leaders to leave JMM and join the BJP in the recent past.
