The Indian Army on Monday foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Mendhar sector of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
Troops guarding the border noticed a group of suspicious individuals trying to sneak into India near Dabbi village of Balakote in the early hours today.
He said they challenged the movement, and heavy gunfire was exchanged between the two sides. “The area has been cordoned off and a massive search operation is underway,” he said.
Earlier, on August 28, security forces had foiled another infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in the Gurez sector.
They said two infiltrators were killed, as alert troops challenged the suspected terrorists in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
The operation, codenamed Naushera Nar IV, is being jointly carried out by the Army and the Jammu & Kashmir Police (JKP).
According to the Valley-based Chinar Corps’ statement on X, “Based on intelligence inputs from JKP regarding a likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched in the Gurez sector. Alert troops spotted suspicious movement and challenged the intruders, who opened indiscriminate fire. Troops retaliated effectively, neutralising two terrorists.”
Jammu and Kashmir border areas have recently witnessed intensified infiltration attempts across several locations, particularly in North Kashmir. This is normal, as infiltration attempts during this season of the year go up as terrorists try to infiltrate this side before the onset of winter.
