In a shocking case in Odisha, police rescued a 4-year-old girl in Bhubaneswar after she was sold for Rs 40,000 by her parents. The couple, originally from Bihar, along with four others involved in the incident, has been arrested, according to Odisha Police.
The parents, daily wage labourers working in the Badagada area, reportedly sold their daughter to a childless couple in Pipili due to financial difficulties. The Badagada Police Station in-charge, Trupti Ranjan Nayak, confirmed the arrests and ongoing investigations.
The matter came to light when a resident, Sarthak Mahadik, informed the police about the couple's actions. Acting on the tip, officers rescued the child from a village in Pipili. Both parents and two intermediaries who arranged the sale were arrested.
The parents confessed to selling their daughter and identified the intermediaries who facilitated the deal. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover further details.
This incident has shocked Odisha, highlighting the urgent need for stronger measures to prevent such illegal activities.
