Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Saturday that the people of Bihar would celebrate “four Diwalis” this year, each marking a distinct achievement or promise.
Speaking at a rally, the Union Minister laid out the four reasons for the multiple celebrations.
“This time, the people of Bihar have to celebrate four Diwalis,” Shah stated. “The first Diwali is to be celebrated on the day Lord Shri Ram returned to Ayodhya. The second Diwali, just yesterday, Modi deposited ₹10,000 each into the bank accounts of our Jeevika Didis, so celebrate that. The third Diwali, Modi reduced the prices of more than 395 items by 15 to 20 per cent through GST reforms. And the fourth Diwali, we have to celebrate it by forming an National Democratic Alliance-Bharatiya Janata Party government with more than 160 seats…”
Shah also urged the public to purchase only 'Swadeshi' (indigenous) products this Diwali, following the recent changes in the GST rate slabs. "In this Diwali, we shall ensure whatever we purchase is Swadeshi. We have to take resolve of that,” he said.
The second 'Diwali' cited by Shah referred to the launch of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana for Bihar, which Prime Minister Modi launched via video conferencing on Friday. During the programme, the Prime Minister directly transferred ₹10,000 each into the bank accounts of 75 lakh women across Bihar, amounting to a total of ₹7,500 crore.
This assistance is intended to be used in areas of the beneficiary’s choice, including agriculture, animal husbandry, handicrafts, tailoring, weaving, and other small-scale enterprises. Prime Minister Modi also took the opportunity to interact with some of the beneficiaries during the event.
The recipients praised the scheme and expressed their gratitude towards both PM Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
The upcoming assembly elections in Bihar are regarded as crucial, with the BJP and NDA facing off against the opposition INDIA bloc.
The Bihar polls are anticipated to take place later this year, likely in October or November, although the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not yet announced an official date.
