The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday, accusing her of failing to address the recent allegations of sexual assault and land grab in Sandeshkhali.

BJP MP Locket Chatterjee asserted that the women's protests in Sandeshkhali were genuine and spontaneous, driven by outrage over the reported atrocities.

She refuted claims of political intervention by the BJP, stating that their role was solely to support and amplify the voices of the victims.

Chatterjee drew a strong parallel, claiming that the experiences of women in Sandeshkhali mirrored the suffering endured by women in nations like Iraq and Pakistan.

The MP levelled direct accusations against the Chief Minister, alleging that TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh, the prime suspect, was receiving protection from the government.

This claim, if substantiated, could raise serious questions about the impartiality of the investigation.

Chatterjee called for the strictest possible punishment for Sheikh, including capital punishment. This reflects the BJP's position on the severity of the alleged crimes and their insistence on justice for the victims.

She strongly condemned Chief Minister Banerjee's alleged questioning of the victim's accounts, calling it "very cheap." This reaction indicates that the BJP views the CM's remarks as insensitive and dismissive of the seriousness of the accusations.

Chatterjee reiterated the BJP's demand for the removal of the TMC government, stating that West Bengal needed to be "saved" from its mismanagement.

This call to action demonstrates the BJP's intention to capitalise on the public outrage and gain political momentum.

In contrast, Chief Minister Banerjee has refuted the accusations, claiming that the incident was instigated by the BJP and that no formal complaints have been registered.

The discrepancy between these narratives underlines the ongoing political tug-of-war surrounding the incident.

The Chief Minister stated that it is the BJP which has created a mess in Sandeshkhali.
