BJP, JMM lock horns over ‘Go Go Didi’ scheme in Jharkhand

The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders have indulged in a gruesome political battle over the ‘Go Go Didi Yojna’ the BJP has announced to implement in Jharkhand if it comes to power.

On the lines of Jharkhand Chief Minister Mainiya Samman Yojana, which the JMM-led government has launched in the State and started giving Rs 1000 every month to women aged between 18 and 49 years, the BJP has promised Rs 2100 every month to women if it comes to power.

Meanwhile, the party is said to have also started getting forms of the scheme filled in many areas of the State.

After the news of filling in forms under the Gogo Didi scheme, JMM posted on X accusing BJP of flouting the rules of the Election Commission.

Soon after Chief Minister Hemant Soren directed the Deputy Commissioners of all the districts to take action in this matter and file a case against those involved in violating the ECI directions.

Responding to Soren’s post on X, BJP leaders Babulal Marandi, Amar Bauri, Himanta Biswa Sarma issued a statement and attacked JMM and Congress fiercely.

Marandi even challenged to file a case against Soren’s order. He said that the Chief Minister lacks constitutional knowledge. “I will get the Gogo Didi Yojana form filled myself, the government should file a case,” he said.

He appealed to all the workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party to take the work of filling out the forms of Gogo Didi Yojana to every household.

Assuring all the BJP workers, he said that he, along with people, would go among women and get them to fill out the ‘Gogo Didi Yojana’ form for their development and progress.

Assam Chief Minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma, reacting to Soren's post on X, wrote that the Election Commission's Model Code of Conduct comes into effect from the date of issue of the election notification. Until the notification is issued, every political party has the right to conduct its programs.

“As long as we are not violating any rule or constitutional provision, any kind of interference in our activities will be considered illegal,” he said.
