Former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has said industries are constantly migrating from the state due to the anti-Haryana policies of the BJP.
“Recently, there was news that the plywood and utensils industry of Yamunanagar and the textile industry of Panipat are on the verge of closure. Now the latest report has revealed that in the last three years, more than 100 rice mills of Haryana have also shifted to Madhya Pradesh,” he said.
“This is not only a shock for the state with an agriculture-based economy, but also a matter of shame for the government because the state will suffer a revenue loss of Rs 100 crore every year due to this. Along with this, employment of 20,000 to 25,000 people will also be snatched away every year,” he added.
Hooda said rice farmers used to get the highest rate in the country during the Congress tenure. “This is why farmers used to happily chant the slogan — Congress tere raj mein, jiri gayi jhaaj mein. Due to this, the farmers of the state worked hard, and Haryana’s share in the country’s rice export reached 60 per cent. BJP’s anti-Haryana and anti-farmer policies, however, have pushed the state into a situation where this share is now barely 40 per cent,” he pointed out.
The former CM stated that more than 100 rice mills from Yamunanagar, Karnal, Tarawadi, Cheeka, Gharaunda, Kurukshetra, Nissing, Kaithal, Ambala, Fatehabad, Sirsa, Tohana, and Ratia have migrated to Madhya Pradesh in the past three years. “Thirty to forty businessmen have also bought land in Madhya Pradesh to build new rice mills and warehouses, because the BJP government did not reduce the market fee despite repeated demands. In Haryana, a 4 per cent market fee is levied on the rice industry, whereas in Madhya Pradesh it is only 1.20 per cent,” he said.
“Not only this, the BJP government of Haryana has also dealt a heavy blow to the industry by increasing electricity rates wildly. The remaining task was completed by the uncontrolled crime, hooliganism, mafia, threats, and extortion, forcing businessmen to leave the state,” he noted.
Hooda said medium and small industries, which have been in constant crisis since demonetisation and the COVID pandemic, have not been able to recover till now as the state government has not given them any kind of financial assistance, concessions, or facilities. Giving the example of the plywood industry, he said the industry is considered the identity of Yamunanagar, but now it is migrating toward Uttar Pradesh because the UP government is creating clusters for the wood industry and offering significant relaxation to businesses. Meanwhile, the BJP government in Haryana has paid no attention towards this.
“Due to this, 380 units which were running here in the year 2017 have now been reduced to just 160. That is, almost half the units have migrated from here. Similarly, the industries of Panchkula are also migrating towards Baddi in Himachal Pradesh. Industries of Gurugram and Faridabad are turning towards Noida-Ghaziabad,” he said, expressing concern over the decline of industries in Haryana.
Hooda said ever since the BJP came to power, there has been complete silence in the state in the name of big investments. “During the Congress government, the maximum investment around Delhi came to various areas of Haryana, including Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Panipat, Rewari and Rohtak, but in the last 11 years, let alone new investments, even the already established industries are constantly migrating. Due to this, the state has completely lagged behind in terms of employment generation and today Haryana remains the leader in unemployment in the entire country,” he said.
“If we talk about industry, six new IMTs (HSIDC Industrial Areas) were built in the state during the Congress tenure. Big industries like Maruti, Asian Paints, NTPC, Reliance, Honda, IOC, Panasonic, Yokohama, and Denso were set up in the state. Projects like the rail coach factory and international airport were also approved, and Haryana became number one in per capita income, per capita investment, and employment,” he said.
“The BJP, by contrast, did not establish even a single IMT in its entire tenure. Not a single big investment came. Due to rising crime, there was an atmosphere of panic in the industry and small and big industries migrated from here. Approved projects like rail coach factory, international airport were shifted out of Haryana. Due to this, the state became the number one state in the country in unemployment, crime, drug addiction, migration, corruption,” he added.
