British Columbia Legislative Assembly Speaker Raj Chouhan paid a courtesy visit to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday. He was accompanied by his wife, daughter and brother. They met Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and discussed various issues to strengthen ties between both the nations.
Chouhan is the first Punjabi Speaker of British Columbia and he is also guiding Indians living in Canada for a long time.
Sandhwan said that there is another Punjab present in Canada, which proves to be the backbone of Canada's economy. Chouhan expressed his desire to enhance trade and share technology with Punjab so that both the countries can mutually benefit from it.
He said he looked forward to an exchange of ideas on best practices within the respective institutions in the two countries, including security, service delivery, modernisation of proceedings and continuing education for Legislative Assembly members.
Sandhwan presented a phulkari, traditional folk embroidery of Punjab and a ‘lohi’ (shawl) to Chouhan and his family members.
