West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose hailed the notification of rules under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) on Monday, calling it a "logical conclusion" and an exemplar of "good governance in India."
The CAA extends citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.
Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of an event here, Bose characterized the CAA's enactment as a natural progression following its passage by Parliament several years ago.
He emphasised that the notification of rules is part of the standard process of governance in the country.
Responding to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's remarks on the CAA just moments before its notification, Bose underscored the importance of democratic procedures.
He highlighted that the democratically elected government at the Centre follows due process in enacting laws, demonstrating the rule of law over the law of the rulers.
Regarding Banerjee's stance on the CAA, Bose echoed her sentiment, stating that understanding the finalized rules before offering opinions is crucial. He affirmed alignment with the chief minister on this approach.
Banerjee, in her press conference, announced plans to provide a detailed opinion on the CAA after thorough examination of the notification and finalized rules, slated for Tuesday.
