The central government has sanctioned Rs 493 crore for the construction of roads and bridges in Assam and Tripura, aimed at enhancing rural connectivity and fostering economic growth in the northeastern region, announced the Rural Development Ministry on Friday.
In Assam, 78 roads spanning 563.67 km and 14 bridges under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-III will receive an investment of Rs 378.68 crore.
Simultaneously, Tripura will see the construction of 42 roads covering 118.75 km under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN), with an investment of Rs 114.32 crore.
In a statement, the ministry said, "78 roads measuring 563.67 km and 14 bridges under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)- III got the government's approval in Assam, with an estimated investment of Rs. 378.68 crore."
"The government sanctioned 42 roads measuring 118.75 km in Tripura under the connectivity component of Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN), with an estimated investment of Rs. 114.32 crore," it added.
These initiatives are expected to improve access to essential services, strengthen connectivity between remote villages and urban centers, and stimulate economic activities such as trade and commerce across the region, the ministry mantained.
The roads in Tripura will specifically provide all-weather connectivity to 47 habitations of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), thereby enhancing their accessibility and socio-economic development opportunities.
It will cement the government's commitment to inclusive development, and contribute to the growth and prosperity of the tribal groups, the ministry added.
