In a significant operation, security forces killed three Naxalites during an encounter in the Sornamal forest of Gariaband district, Chhattisgarh. The forest is known for frequent Maoist attacks.

Teams from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Special Task Force (STF) surrounded the Naxalites and launched the operation. Around 300 security personnel from both Chhattisgarh and Odisha participated in the mission.

Superintendent of Police Jitendra Chandrakar confirmed that the bodies of three Naxalites were recovered along with weapons. The identities of the slain Naxalites are yet to be determined, but authorities suspect they may have been carrying significant rewards on their heads.

Details of the naxal encounter

The operation led to a fierce exchange of fire, resulting in the deaths of the three Naxalites. Security forces are still at the encounter site, conducting further searches to ensure no additional threats remain.

Background of recent maoist attacks

This encounter follows another violent incident last week when two CoBRA commandos of the CRPF were injured in a gunfight with Naxalites in Sukma district. The attack occurred at Gomguda's forward operating base (FOB), where forces were securing a newly established position in the dense forest.

Development in maoist-affected villages

Meanwhile, in a positive development, Purvarti village in Sukma, notorious for being a stronghold of Naxalite leaders, received its first television.

Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma stated that efforts are underway to bring development to every corner of the state, despite the challenges posed by Maoist resistance.

"Naxalites have kept villages isolated, blocking access to basic amenities like electricity, water, roads, and schools. Now, this will change, and development will reach even the remotest areas," Sharma said.

This series of events highlights both the challenges and progress in Chhattisgarh's fight against Naxalism and its efforts to improve life in affected regions.
