While the nation gears up for the Ram Mandir consecration programme, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee has stated her plans for January 22. Turning down the invitation to be present at the Ram Mandir inauguration programme, which the TMC has termed as a political mayhem of the Bharatiya Janata Party, CM Banerjee at last cleared her stance. She has given a call for an interfaith rally in her home turf. Starting the day with offering prayers at Kali temple, the rally would cover several religious places, including mosques and gurudwaras.
She took a jibe at the BJP for doing Pran Pratistha of Lord Rama. She added that politicians cannot do pran pratistha, this work is accredited to seers and sadhus.
Since TMC’s rally will involve people from various strata of the society, irrespective of one’s caste, creed, colour and religion, it has been termed as the ‘Sarba Dharma’ rally, which will culminate in Park Circus Maidan. The rally is considered to be a part of the Jono Sanjog Yatra, which was spearheaded by TMC’s general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, ahead of the panchayat polls.
In an attempt to justify the idea of conducting a yatra, CM Banerjee reiterated a proverb, which she often says, “religion is for oneself, festivals are for everyone”. The rally which will start from Hazra and culminate in Park Circus maidan, followed by a meeting.
While the TMC is hailing the yatra to be a ‘masterstroke’, ahead of the general elections, which underscores communal harmony, the BJP, on the other hand, has deemed the yatra to be an eye-wash juxtaposing it with the recent incident of harassing sadhus going on their way to the Gangasagar Mela.
