Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has proposed that the Centre examine the feasibility of high-speed rail connectivity from Hyderabad to Chennai and Bengaluru, aligning future transport infrastructure with the state’s ambitious urban and industrial development goals.
Chairing a review meeting with senior officials of the South Central Railway and state departments, Reddy called for a detailed survey and alignment study of the proposed high-speed rail corridors. The routes, he suggested, should be planned in conjunction with the greenfield highway project connecting the upcoming ‘Bharat Future City’ in Hyderabad to Machilipatnam Port in Andhra Pradesh.
According to an official release, Reddy mooted the idea of a bullet train from Shamshabad, where Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is located, to Chennai, a move that signals Telangana’s aspirations to bolster inter-city connectivity and regional economic linkages.
He also highlighted the importance of a railway line running parallel to the proposed greenfield highway, traversing Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh. “Telangana was assured of rapid road and rail connectivity between Hyderabad and Amaravati as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014,” the Chief Minister noted during the discussions.

Emphasising integrated transport planning, Reddy outlined the strategic significance of establishing a Regional Ring Rail around Hyderabad. Alongside the Regional Ring Road (RRR), a 362-kilometre stretch, the proposed rail network is expected to enhance Hyderabad’s standing as a future-ready urban hub.
“The establishment of the Regional Ring Rail and Regional Ring Road (RRR) here on a stretch of 362 kms would transform Hyderabad as the most happening city in the country,” he stated.
Reaffirming the state’s cooperation, Reddy assured full support to the Indian Railways in expediting long-pending rail projects, particularly those critical to regional integration and economic expansion.
The meeting comes at a time when Telangana is actively positioning itself as a logistics and connectivity powerhouse in South India, with a focus on seamless linkages between ports, industrial corridors, and metropolitan nodes.
