Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has requested the Central Government to provide a special industrial package for the state, similar to those given to Jammu and Kashmir and northeastern states.
During his meeting with Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi on Thursday, CM Sukhu emphasised the need for this package to promote balanced development across the state.
He also requested the revival of the transport subsidy scheme for hilly regions like Himachal Pradesh, highlighting the high logistical costs due to the state’s challenging terrain. According to the Chief Minister, this subsidy would help boost industrial production and exports.
Additionally, CM Sukhu sought funds to improve industrial infrastructure, establish quality testing and certification labs to promote exports, and expedite the release of pending capital subsidies under the Industrial Development Scheme. He also urged approval for pending applications under the same scheme.
Meanwhile, the Himachal Pradesh Government issued a notification directing Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to address public grievances twice a week. Under this directive, DCs will be available in their offices every Monday and Thursday to hear complaints from the public.
