Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Sukhu met NITI Aayog vice chairman Suman Bery and member VK Paul and a panel of experts in New Delhi to seek the release of funds for the hill state. He stressed the need for the grant of “green bonus” to Himachal.
Sukhu also made a request to the Finance Commission about the state’s requirements that need to be addressed at the earliest. He further detailed his vision of ‘Green Himachal’ that his government is aiming to undertake.
Sukhu said, “Himachal must get ‘green bonus’ for conserving its forest cover, which is vital for the entire country. Himachal acts as the lungs of North India and must get a ‘green bonus’ for protecting its forest cover and natural resources.”
He further advised NITI Aayog to measure differently while assessing the financial needs of the hilly states that are different from other states.
CM Sukhu highlighted the need for better air and rail connectivity to the state.
He also sought royalty in hydroelectric power projects under the central public sector undertakings (CPSUs).
CM Sukhu urged the NITI Aayog to study in detail the causes of calamities and rising cancer cases in the state so that preventive measures could be taken in time.
He also discussed the challenges faced by the locals during the time of natural calamities.
Vice chairman of Niti Aayog Bery assured Sukhu that a panel of experts would study the case presented by the state.
Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sunder Singh Thakur, Chief Minister’s Principal Adviser Ram Subhag Singh and senior officers of the state government were also present.
