A tragic incident occurred in Rishikesh on Friday evening when a young couple was swept away in the Chandrabhaga river, a tributary of the Ganga.

 

Pintu (26) and his wife Lakshmi (25), residents of Chandreshwar Nagar, were trying to cross the river from Mayakund when they lost balance and got swept away by the strong current of the river, the police said.

 

The incident took place around 7 pm. Soon after, water police and SDRF teams launched a search operation, but had to stop after evening. The search resumed on Saturday morning, though the couple is still missing.
