The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made a significant breakthrough in the case of the 2022 murder of RSS leader Srinivasan in Kerala, with the arrest of a key absconding member of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI).
The arrested individual, identified as Shafeekh, was apprehended by the NIA Absconder Tracking Team in Kollam district on Monday. Shafeekh had been evading authorities since the targeted killing of Srinivasan in Palakkad on April 16, 2022.
Hailing from Malappuram district, Shafeekh was an integral part of the PFI machinery and hit squads responsible for the heinous murder of Srinivasan. According to NIA investigations, Shafeekh harbored Ashraf KP, who, acting on directives from PFI leadership, conspired with other members to carry out the attack. Ashraf had also conducted reconnaissance of potential targets for elimination.
The NIA has identified a total of 71 individuals involved in the conspiracy, with two chargesheets already filed on March 17, 2023, and November 6, 2023. One of the accused, Abdul Naser, passed away on January 2 last year, while two absconders, Saheer K V and Jaffar Bheemantavida, were arrested on October 19, 2023, and February 12 this year, respectively.
The arrest of Shafeekh marks a significant development in the investigation, shedding light on the intricate network behind the gruesome murder of Srinivasan. The NIA's relentless pursuit of justice underscores its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability for acts of terrorism and violence.
The swift action taken by the NIA reflects the government's determination to combat extremist activities and bring perpetrators to justice. It also sends a strong message that individuals involved in such heinous crimes will be held accountable, regardless of their affiliation or influence.
The arrest of Shafeekh comes as a relief to the family of Srinivasan and serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by RSS leaders in the fight against extremism. It also underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and intelligence units in combating terrorism and maintaining peace and security in the region.
Moving forward, the NIA is expected to continue its investigation, unraveling further details of the conspiracy and bringing all perpetrators to justice. The arrest of Shafeekh is a significant step towards achieving closure for the victims' families and ensuring that justice is served in the Srinivasan murder case.
