The recent Haldwani violence in Uttarakhand has gripped the nation's attention, shedding light on a series of disturbing events triggered by the demolition of an illegal mosque in the Banbhoolpura area of the town.

The incident has led to significant arrests and ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the violence. Uttarakhand Police made a significant breakthrough with the arrest of Abdul Moid, the son of alleged mastermind Abdul Malik, from Delhi.

Moid, considered a key accused in the case, was apprehended as part of a broader crackdown on individuals connected to the February 8 violence. This arrest brings the total number of individuals detained in connection to the incident to 84, highlighting the scale and seriousness of the authorities' response.

The violence erupted after an illegal mosque owned by Abdul Malik was razed by authorities, sparking outrage and unrest among certain sections of the community. Stone pelting and arson ensued in the Banbhoolpura area, resulting in six fatalities and over 100 injuries, including police personnel and journalists.

The situation escalated to the extent that authorities imposed a curfew, which was gradually lifted after 12 days as tensions eased. Abdul Malik, identified as the alleged mastermind behind the violence, was apprehended by authorities on February 24, following an extensive manhunt.

Malik's opposition to the demolition and subsequent legal challenges mounted by his wife, Safia, underscored the contentious nature of the issue. Despite legal efforts to prevent the mosque's demolition, the court upheld the authorities' actions, leading to further unrest in the community.

In addition to Abdul Malik and Abdul Moid, several others were implicated in the violence, including five women from the Banbhoolpura area who were arrested by Uttarakhand Police.

These arrests bring the total number of individuals detained to 89, as authorities continue their efforts to hold those responsible for the violence accountable. The aftermath of the Haldwani violence serves as a stark reminder of the complex socio-political dynamics at play and underscores the need for effective law enforcement measures to maintain peace and order in society.

As investigations unfold and legal proceedings progress, it remains imperative for authorities to ensure justice is served and steps are taken to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
