Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's helicopter, which reached Banshidhar Nagar in Garhwa district of Jharkhand for BJP’s Parivartan Yatra today ran out of fuel while it was to start its return journey.
After waiting for hours at the SDO office to get fuel for the private company chopper, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had to leave for Varanasi by road.
The private company's helicopter, which was being used by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan for the political rally, ran out of fuel.
Later, both the Union Ministers were sent to Varanasi by road with tight security arrangements.
Garhwa Deputy Commissioner Shekhar Jamuar said that information was shared with Sonbhadra DC of Uttar Pradesh. The Ministers were sent with tight security arrangements. The helicopter has been called at the Garhwa helipad. It will be sent back after refuelling, he said.
BJP MLA from Bhawanathpur Bhanu Pratap Shahi said that the fuel for the helicopter did not arrive on time. Fuel could not be supplied due to traffic jams in Medininagar.
He said that the Defence Minister has many programmes in Jammu on Sunday, so instead of staying overnight, it was decided to travel to Varanasi by road. The Air Force aircraft present in Ranchi will go to Varanasi.
