More than 100 packets of drugs have washed up on the shores of Kutch and Devbhumi Dwarka districts in Gujarat over the past few days, police reported on Saturday.
In the latest discovery, several packets of narcotic drug charas were found near Gorinja village in Devbhumi Dwarka district on Saturday, according to Superintendent of Police Nitesh Pandey. "We have so far recovered more than 50 such packets, and we will continue to sweep the area," Pandey said.
Samples from the packets have been sent for forensic examination.
Earlier, police recovered 29 packets containing charas and methamphetamine from the coast of Kutch in recent days, stated PP Gohil, a Special Operations Group (SOG) official of Kutch (West) police. Of these packets, 20 contained charas, while nine had methamphetamine.
Authorities believe that smugglers, fearing capture, dumped these packets into the sea, which were subsequently carried ashore by favorable wind conditions.
The incidents in Devbhumi Dwarka began on Wednesday when 21 packets of charas washed up on the coast. Over the following days, an additional 30 packets were found in ongoing operations.
With these discoveries, the total number of drug packets recovered from the shores of Kutch and Devbhumi Dwarka has exceeded 100, highlighting the growing challenge of coastal drug smuggling in the region.
