Taking a revolutionary step for the first time in the country, all polling booths of Jharkhand are set to be transformed into model polling booths with all basic amenities such as drinking water, electricity, a waiting lounge, and a proper shed for voters waiting to cast their votes in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls 2024.
Jharkhand has as many as 29521 polling booths spread across the state.
Chief Electoral Officer, Jharkhand, K Ravi Kumar said that all 29521 polling stations across Jharkhand will be developed as model booths having all basic facilities ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He said that the booths will have queue-less facilities for polling this time.
Kumar said that facilities are being made in the polling booths so that voters do not have to stand in queues. A lounge will be made in polling booths, where voters will sit and wait for their turns to exercise their franchise. Also, volunteers will assist the voters with tokens so that they can cast their votes in a proper manner, he said.
Elaborating on the facilities available at the waiting lounge Kumar said, “The lounge will have comfortable seating arrangements, drinking water facility, electricity, fans, and television, in which videos of SVEEP Committee activities will be played. The booths will also have a medical facility and playing items for kids.”
The Election Commission is also making theme-based booths in every district based on the local art, and culture of that specific area, which will be decided by the district administration. The CEO, Jharkhand said that some of the booths will also be filled with all-women, all-youth, and all-disabled polling parties to ensure the participation of everyone in this festival of democracy.
“There will be some polling booths completely managed by women, youth, or divyang persons in order to ensure everyone’s participation in this festival of democracy,” said Kumar.
He said that earlier, in previous elections, there were selected polling booths that were developed as model booths at the district level and were made attractive by providing all the basic facilities. However, this time all the polling centers will be developed as model polling booths, he added.
