The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has attached eight properties and three bank accounts belonging to former deputy director, Food & Civil Supplies, Rakesh Kumar Singla, his wife Rachna Singla and sons Swaraj and Siddarth following a court order in an ongoing corruption case.
A VB spokesperson said the attached immovable assets include five shops at The Celebration Bazaar near Patwarkhana in Khanna, a flat in Sector 48, Chandigarh, an office space at International Trade Tower, Mullanpur (SAS Nagar), and an SCO in the Lake Commercial Project at Omaxe (SAS Nagar).
The Bureau has also attached bank balances amounting to Rs 1.08 crore credited to Rachna Singla as rental returns from these properties and rent receipts of Rs 14.32 lakh and Rs 16.25 lakh in the accounts of Swaraj and Siddarth, respectively.
In an order on September 15, the court had restrained the accused and their legal heirs/attorneys from transferring or mortgaging the attached properties during the pendency of the case.
The disproportionate assets case registered against Singla, a resident of Rajguru Nagar, Ludhiana, on August 16, 2022 relates to corruption and embezzlement in foodgrain labour and transportation tenders. It is alleged that he purchased several properties in his family members’ names using the proceeds of crime.
Singla and his wife had been declared proclaimed offenders after they continued to evade law enforcement agencies.
