Jammu and Kashmir National Conference chief Dr Farooq Abdullah has expressed that more filmmakers would shoot their projects in the Kashmiri language to portray the Valley’s beauty and local talent.
Speaking to reporters here in Srinagar after the premiere of the first Kashmiri-Kannada film “Harmukh”, Farooq said, “This is very good, and they have acted very well also.”
The former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir said more and more such films should be made in the local language to promote the culture, beauty, and local talented youth who see their future in showbiz.
Not only would it allow people from the country to have a better understanding of the local culture, but this would surely play an important role in promoting the language to wider audiences in the country.
Farooq said, “I hope they make more films in the Kashmiri language, like in other states such as Tamil Nadu, Andhra, Bengal and Bollywood.”
We want them to make Kashmiri films that are watched everywhere, because there are Kashmiris everywhere. We can dub these movies in other languages so that others can understand them as well,” he added.
The veteran politician, however, urged the filmmakers to make quality films, unlike “some in the past that could not be screened due to lack of artistry and strong acting sense”.
“We should admire and allow film producers to make good films. Kashmir is not only beautiful but possesses a good pool of seasoned and aspiring actors who are seeking chances to prove themselves,” he said.
About the film, Abdullah said he felt happy after watching it. “God willingly, it will soon come on Netflix and the whole world can watch it.”
