A major fire broke out at Times Tower, a seven-storey commercial building in Mumbai’s Kamala Mill compound, Lower Parel, early on Friday, but no injuries have been reported.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials said the blaze started around 6.30 am.
The fire brigade classified it as a level 2 (major) fire and dispatched nine fire engines and several other firefighting vehicles to the scene.
"Initial reports say nine fire tenders were sent to the scene and no injuries have been reported," said a BMC official.
The Kamala Mills compound has a history of devastating fires. On December 29, 2017, a fire broke out at 1Above and spread to Mojo’s Bistro restaurant, killing 14 people and injuring several others.
Following the 2017 incident, 14 people were booked by Mumbai Police, including restaurant owners, BMC officials, and mill owners. However, the Mumbai sessions court discharged Kamala Mills owners Ramesh Gowani and Ravi Bhandari on November 10, 2020.
The cause of the current fire is yet to be determined, and authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
