In a heartbreaking incident on Saturday morning, tragedy struck near the Chandan Ghat as four children lost their lives in a drowning accident in the Ganga River.
The victims, identified as Nazia Bano (10), Raj Babu (7), Munajir (10), and Riyaz (8), were from two families residing along the banks of the sacred river, according to local authorities.
Circle Officer Sonam Singh provided details of the devastating event, stating that the children had gone to bathe in the river early in the morning when the accident occurred.
Unfortunately, while immersed in play, Nazia, Raj, Munajir, and Riyaz slipped into the deep waters of the river. Zainab Bano (5), another child who was bathing on the riverbank, narrowly escaped the same fate as she was rescued by individuals present at the scene.
Efforts to rescue the four children commenced promptly, with boatmen assisting in retrieving them from the river. The victims were swiftly transported to a nearby private hospital, but despite the best efforts of medical professionals, all four were declared deceased upon arrival.
The close-knit community along the banks of the Ganga River mourns the loss of these young lives, with neighbors and relatives reeling from the tragedy.
