The Haryana government has announced that farmers who suffer losses to life crops, property or livestock because of incidents of fires will get compensation from the state government, said an official release on Monday.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini chaired a high-level meeting on the matter and directed officials to take swift action to support affected farmers. In addition to compensation, the state will assist with seeds and fertilisers for sowing the upcoming crop cycle, according to a statement issued by the Directorate of Public Relations, Haryana.
Earlier, CM Saini inaugurated a newly-constructed bridge over the Ghaggar River in Panchkula district and emphasised that development projects in the state are progressing at a rapid pace. “In the past decade, we have written a new definition of development,” he said while addressing the gathering at the inauguration.
While addressing the gathering at the inauguration event, Saini further said, “Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s double-engine government came to power in Haryana, the direction and condition of Haryana have changed. Development works are being executed swiftly, and today it takes only three to four hours to travel across the state due to improved road infrastructure.”
The chief minister also took a dig at the previous Congress-led UPA government over the original Waqf Bill introduced in 2013–2014, alleging it was passed hastily for "vote bank politics." He criticised the bill for lacking meaningful provisions that benefited the Muslim community.
In light of recent Supreme Court observations on the Waqf Amendment Act, Saini defended the revised legislation, stating that the amended Act aims to serve the interests of the broader Muslim population more effectively.
