Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel recently participated in the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the 'Shramik Basera Yojana' at Jagatpur, Ahmedabad. This initiative aims to provide dignified living accommodations to construction workers and their families, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Shramev Jayate'.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Patel emphasised the government's commitment to improving the lives of labourers. He highlighted that under the 'Shramik Basera Yojana', the state plans to offer housing facilities to approximately three lakh workers in various Kadianakas across Gujarat over the next three years. The government has allocated Rs. 1500 crore for this endeavour.
"The scheme ensures that labourers have access to essential amenities such as clean water, kitchen facilities, electricity, CCTV surveillance, toilets, street lights, security services, sanitation infrastructure, and medical care," Patel shared on social media.
Expressing concern over the housing plight of labourers, Patel underscored the irony that those who build homes for others often lack adequate housing for their own families.
He reiterated the government's commitment to bridge this gap through the 'Shramik Basera Yojana', offering affordable temporary housing solutions alongside benefits like subsidised food under the 'Shramik Annapurna Yojana' and free health check-ups.
During the event, Patel inaugurated 17 'Shramik Baseras' across Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, and Rajkot in the first phase. These facilities are expected to benefit approximately 15,000 workers immediately. The launch of the Shramik Basera portal also allows eligible workers to register and avail themselves of the scheme's benefits seamlessly.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government's adherence to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay's principle of 'Har Haat Ko Kam, Har Kam Ko Samman' (Work for every hand, Respect for every work), emphasising ongoing efforts to empower workers economically and socially.
He emphasised that Gujarat's labour force has been integral in propelling the state's growth and pledged to enhance their standard of living through comprehensive support across health, housing, and income domains.
The 'Shramik Basera Yojana' represents a significant step towards ensuring that labourers, who are the backbone of Gujarat's development, receive the dignity and support they deserve.
As the initiative unfolds, it is expected to create a positive impact on the lives of numerous families, fostering a stronger and more inclusive society across the state.
