Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved a substantial allocation of Rs 240 crore for the implementation of 'Nirmal Gujarat 2.0', a comprehensive initiative aimed at bolstering the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the state.

This decision comes as a significant step towards promoting cleanliness and hygiene across urban areas in Gujarat, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a cleaner India.

Under the 'Nirmal Gujarat 2.0' plan, municipalities will receive incentive grants based on their performance in sanitation tax collection, incentivizing them to enhance public awareness and prioritize cleanliness initiatives. The allocation strategy includes a tiered approach, with municipalities categorized into different classes based on their tax collection efficiency.

Additionally, the Chief Minister has sanctioned financial assistance for the development of major entry roads and iconic roads within towns and cities, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure in promoting cleanliness.

Municipalities and municipal corporations will receive matching grants equivalent to the cleaning tax collected annually, further incentivizing them to maintain cleanliness standards.

In a bid to beautify public spaces and eliminate garbage vulnerability, the state government has allocated funds for beautification efforts at Garbage Vulnerable Points, ensuring permanent cleanliness at these locations.

Moreover, a quarterly competition titled 'Maru Shaher, Swachh Shaher' will foster a competitive spirit among local self-government bodies, encouraging them to excel in sanitation performance.

Recognizing the crucial role of sanitation workers, the 'Nirmal Gujarat 2.0' initiative includes provisions for financial incentives and recognition for exemplary sanitation workers.

Monthly awards will be given to the best sanitation workers at the ward and municipal levels, acknowledging their contributions to maintaining cleanliness in the state's cities.

Furthermore, administrative departments will implement an annual cleanliness calendar and conduct sanitation cleaning activities as part of the initiative. 'Nirmal Gujarat 2.0' builds upon the success of the Nirmal Gujarat Abhiyan from 2007, reinforcing the state's commitment to the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) and the motto "Cleanliness is next to Godliness."

By prioritizing cleanliness and hygiene, Gujarat aims to emerge as a leading state in sanitation, contributing to the larger goal of a clean and sustainable India. With robust financial support and innovative initiatives, 'Nirmal Gujarat 2.0' sets a precedent for effective urban sanitation management and underscores the state's commitment to building a healthier environment for its citizens.
