The sex ratio in Haryana recorded the lowest in the past 8 years in 2024. The state recorded a sex ratio of 910 girls per 1,000 boys born in 2024.
According to the official data, a total of 516,402 children were born in 2024, out of which 246,048 were girls and 270,354 were boys. The percentage for baby girls accounted for 47.64 per cent and baby boys 52.35 per cent. The data reveals that the number of baby girls in 2024 was reduced by 24,306 as compared to that of boys in the state.
Nuh District records the highest number of births:
Interestingly, Nuh district, one of India's most backward regions, recorded the highest number of births in Haryana, with 57,961 newborns.
Nuh boasts one of the state's best sex ratios, at 928, surpassed only by Yamunanagar and Sirsa, both with a sex ratio of 936.
Gurgaon and Faridabad lag behind:
Gurgaon reported a dismal sex ratio of 899, despite recording 45,344 births. Neighbouring Faridabad fared similarly, with a sex ratio of 899 and 48,777 births.
Statewide trends raise concerns:
Haryana's overall sex ratio at birth has hit an eight-year low, dropping to 910 in 2024. This decline is particularly concerning, given the state's previous progress since the launch of the "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao" campaign in 2015.
Thirteen districts, including Nuh and Gurgaon, witnessed a decline in the sex ratio, while nine districts, such as Yamunanagar and Sirsa, showed improvement. These variations highlight the need for targeted interventions to address the root causes of this imbalance.
