Haryana is all set to inaugurate its first Climate Change Learning Lab (CCLL) on Wednesday at the Thapli Nature and Ecotourism Centre, Panchkula.
Backed by German International Cooperation (GIZ) under the Climate Adaptation, Resilience and Climate Finance in Rural India (CAFRI II) project and the German government's International Climate Initiative (IKI), the lab marks a significant step in the state’s climate education efforts.
Chief Minister Nayab Saini will inaugurate the lab. It was envisioned in 2022 by Dr. Vivek Saxena, IFS, with support from Minister Shri Rao Narbir Singh.
Managed by the Haryana Forest Department, the lab aims to be a state-level hub for science-based and experiential learning on climate change. It will train students, officials, NGOs, media, and vulnerable communities in areas like greenhouse gases, carbon footprint, climate impact on health and agriculture, India’s climate strategies, and nature-based solutions.
The Thapli Centre is located in the beautiful Shivalik foothills. It will give visitors a close-to-nature learning experience. The Lab supports Prime Minister Modi’s Mission LiFE and the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. It also shows the strong partnership between India and Germany to spread climate awareness and promote sustainable living.
