The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms for the northeastern region of India, as the southwest monsoon makes significant progress.
The northern limit of the monsoon now extends from Mundra in Gujarat to Raxaul in Bihar, signalling its steady advance.
The IMD attributes this development to favourable atmospheric conditions, including an east-west trough and a cyclonic circulation, which are expected to drive the monsoon further into various regions over the next 3-4 days.
The east-west trough, stretching from Madhya Pradesh to Assam, is likely to affect weather patterns in areas such as south Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.
Additionally, a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal is anticipated to impact the weather in the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal regions.
With the monsoon's progression and the presence of these weather systems, residents and authorities in the affected areas are urged to remain vigilant. The increased likelihood of heavy rainfall necessitates close monitoring of weather updates and strict adherence to safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
