Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Supremo and three time former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren was sworn in as the 14th chief minister of Jharkhand on Thursday at a grand ceremony attended by a host of prominent leaders from the INDIA bloc.
The 49-year-old tribal leader took the oath of office and secrecy, administered by Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, during a function at Morabadi Ground in Ranchi.
The event was graced by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal.
Before the ceremony, Soren paid a visit to his father and JMM president, Shibu Soren, dressed in a traditional kurta and pyjama.
This marks Soren’s fourth tenure as chief minister, further cementing his position as a significant political figure in the state.
Soren’s victory in the recent assembly elections was decisive. He retained the Barhait constituency, defeating BJP’s Gamliyel Hembrom with a substantial margin of 39,791 votes.
The JMM-led alliance secured 56 seats in the 81-member assembly, leaving the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) with just 24 constituencies.
The resounding win highlights the dominance of the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance in Jharkhand politics, setting the stage for another term of governance under Soren’s leadership.
The swearing-in ceremony reflected not only the political heft of the INDIA bloc but also Soren’s continued appeal among Jharkhand’s electorate, particularly its tribal communities.
As Jharkhand enters a new chapter under his leadership, all eyes will be on Soren’s administration to address pressing issues such as unemployment, infrastructure development, and tribal welfare.
